Mark DeMontis
At the age of 17, Mark was diagnosed with a rare, degenerative eye condition called Leber's Optic Neuropathy and became legally blind. An accomplished junior hockey player, he had planned to attend university on an athletic scholarship. Instead, Mark discovered Blind Hockey. In 2009, he founded the national charity Courage Canada, which teaches blind and partially sighted youth to skate.
Mark was a 2010 Paralympic torchbearer, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medalist and a recipient of the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award.
